Richard C. Atkins

Richard C. Atkins, 70, of 26 W. 18th St. Jamestown, formerly of Frewsburg, passed away Sunday May 9, 2021, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Hamot in Erie, Pa.

Born August 4, 1950, in Jamestown, N.Y., he was the son of Winifred (nee Carlson) Atkins.

Rick, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was employed as a foreman and purchaser at Lexington Die Casting (formerly Falconer Die Casting) for 35 years until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War, where he received a National Defense Service Medal. He was also a former member of the American Legion- Samuel Derby Post 556 in Frewsburg, N.Y. Throughout his life, he was a skilled mechanic, competitive body-builder, avid baseball card and vinyl album collector, live music and dog-lover, and had an affection for American muscle cars.

Rick is survived by two children: Krista (Kenneth) Nutter of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Rick (Kerri) Atkins II of Randolph; four grandchildren: Kaila and Kaden Nutter and Cody and Josh Atkins; two sisters: Donna Russell of Kiantone, N.Y., and Mary Graham of Wawaka, Ind.; one brother: Tim (Cindy) Atkins of Jamestown, N.Y.; nieces and nephews: Alan Brady, David Brady, Dennis Brady (deceased), Barbara Birt, Ron Morton (deceased), Mark Morton, Cara Sisson, Jason Atkins, Ryan Atkins; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his mother, Rick is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donald Graham.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. for a walk-through visitation at the Peterson Funeral Home, 12 N. Pearl St., Frewsburg, N/Y. Masks will be required. The private funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. also at Peterson Funeral Home. Immediately following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Veteran’s Grove, Lake View Cemetery, Jamestown, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion or the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
