Priscilla Linnie (Darling) Sheldon

Priscilla the daughter of Herbert “Bert” and Linnie Biss Gibbs Darling was born at the family home July 16, 1924, Conewango, N.Y. She attended the two room school in Conewango and Randolph Central School.

She retired March 29, 1991, from NYSDOH, J N Adams Developmental center, Perrysburg, N.Y., after 28.5 years of service as a MHTA. In earlier years, she had worked as a nanny, picked and tied grapes and worked for Curtis Burns Canning Factory, South Dayton, N.Y.

After retirement, she cleaned houses for local families to keep busy. Priscilla is the last know great granddaughter of John and Hannah Pennock Darling, one of the first settlers of Conewango. Mr Darling was the first town supervisor for the town of Conewango. Her Interests included spending time with her family and baking and she was known for her delicious cookies and pies.

Mrs Sheldon is survived by her children: Richard (Cynthia) and James Sheldon, Randolph, N.Y., and Barbara Sheldon, Jamestown, with whom she resided for the past six years. Grandchildren: Susan (James) Matson, Donald (Gina) Sheldon, Randolph, N.Y., Michael (Rachel) Sheldon, Forestville, N.Y., and Kevin Sheldon, Milan, Ma. Great-grandchildren: Steven (Ashley Rager), Timothy (Ashleigh), Riley (Natasha Jolly), Dylan (Christine Walsh), Emily and Evan Matson, Donnilynn Sheldon and Samuel Woodard. Great-great- grandchildren: Weston and Olivia Sheldon. Step great- grandchildren: Logan Burritt, Tyler and Skyler Wright.

Priscilla was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal E. Sheldon, whom she married July 31, 1943, Cherry Creek, N.Y., and who died Nov. 9, 1979. Half sisters: Laura Bartlebaugh, 1969, Anna Roberts-Smith 2003 and Rose Gibbs 2009; half brothers: Paul Gibbs, 1924 Francis Gibbs, 1982, Joseph Gibbs, 1990 and Roy Samuelson, 1990.

The family will receive relatives and friends from noon 1 p.m, Wednesday (May 19, 2021) from the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. A service will follow at 1p.m., grandson-in-law, James Matson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rutledge Cemetery, Seager Hill Road, Conewango.
