James J. Schmitt Sr.

Jim was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Michigan State University. Upon graduation he married Ann, the love of his life, and pursued a career in accounting. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and eventually returned to Jamestown to work at TRW/MRC Bearings as Plant Controller and Crawford Furniture. Jim enjoyed his retirement years in Florida with his wife Ann.

Jim loved God, cherished his family and friends, was an avid golfer, enjoyed music, and was a Michigan State fan. He was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Parish, serving in many capacities. He was also a member of Maplehurst and Conewango Valley Country Clubs and later Timber Pines in Florida.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ann (Cody) Schmitt, his son James J. Schmitt, Jr., and his brother Francis Schmitt, Jr.

Survivors include his daughter, Patricia A. Schmitt-Slaughter of Erie, PA, a grandson Alexander J. Slaughter (Charlie Janini) of Pittsburgh, PA, his daughter-in-law Jennifer Schmitt of Jamestown, NY, and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation and the American Cancer Society.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Joseph Church, 147 West 24th St., Erie, PA on April 17th at 10 a.m. and are welcome to gather prior to the mass from 9:30-10 a.m. to celebrate Jim’s life.
