David Randy Smith Sr.

ASHVILLE- David Randy Smith Sr., 67 of Ashville, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at UPMC Hamot Hospital, in Erie, Pa.

He was born May 26, 1953, in Bluefield, W. Va., the son of the late Harry Bernard Smith Sr. and Agness Welch Smith. He married his soulmate on Dec. 5, 1973, and was married 47 years. He and his wife moved to Ashville in 2007.

David who was known as Randy to his close friends and family, worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation as a Highway Supervisor for 31 years. Once retired, he and his wife Margaret moved to Ashville to run a farm, which was his lifelong dream.

David enjoyed spending time taking care of the farm, sitting under the apple tree, and taking long walks and rides through the property with his wife. He enjoyed fly fishing, laying on the hammock and spending time with his grandchildren. The farm was his greatest joy getting to know all the wonderful people in the area. He had many friends and wonderful neighbors and talked often of how he enjoyed life on the farm. He will always be remembered sitting under the apple tree enjoying the beautiful weather in the summer.

Besides his wife Margaret, he is survived by his four children: David (Brenda) Smith Jr. of Newark, DE, Kimberly (Harry) Porter of Bear, Del., Tracy (Mark) Whitehouse of Newark, Del., and Stephanie (Keith) Morgan of Ashville. His sister Barbara Vied and brother Jerry Smith of New Castle, Del. Five grandchildren: Cody Brownlee, Logan Morgan, Kyle Morgan, Alex Smith, and Emily Morgan. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Bernard Smith Sr. and Agness Smith; his four siblings, Jean Prazzo, Edna Schwatka, Harry Bernard Smith Jr., and Mike Smith and his brother in law Lonnie Prazzo and Mark Crouch. And his favorite dog ‘Buddy’ his Jack Russell.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions service and burial are private. A celebration of life will be held at a future date at the convenience of the family to be announced.
