Thomas Michos

Thomas A. Michos, age 85, of Jamestown NY passed away peacefully Sunday, February 21, 2021.

He was born February 18, 1936 in Nafpaktos, Greece and was a son of the late Evangelos and Eleni Politis Michos.

Tom graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1962. Following the military, Tom earned his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Fredonia. He was a teacher at Samuel G. Love School as well as Jefferson Middle School. He taught for 33 years and retired in 2000.

Tom thoroughly enjoyed teaching. He was admired and well respected among his colleagues, parents, and loved all of his students. He was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, especially with ancient Greek history. He was very proud of his Greek heritage.

His passion was the game of golf. He looked forward to participating yearly in the Italian-American Charity Golf Tournament and had been a member of Conewango Valley Country Club, Moonbrook Country Club and Chautauqua Golf Club. He cherished golfing with his brothers and all of his friends on and off the course.

Most importantly, he will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.

Surviving are his two daughters, Christina Michos (Chris Merchant) of Jamestown and Joanna Pillittieri of Honolulu, Hawaii; two granddaughters, Ellen and Abigail Merchant; three sisters, Jean Wardi, Alexandra Michos and Elizabeth Michos, and two brothers, George and Crist Michos all of Jamestown; several nieces, a nephew and great-nieces and nephews; as well as Tom’s devoted companion, Karen Schuver, also of Jamestown.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a baby sister Katherine Michos; his sister Mary Riolo; brother-in-law Vincent Riolo; sister-in-law Robin Michos; and brother-in-law Ahmad Wardi.

A private family service will be held in St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, led by the Rev. Soterios Rousakis. Visitation will not be observed.
