Sebastiana “Bessie” Indriolo

Sebastiana “Bessie” Indriolo, 102 of Jamestown, N.Y. died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021 surrounded by her daughters. She was born in Ravenna, O.H. on Oct. 28, 1918 the daughter of the late Antonino and Sebastiana Calanni.

At the age of four she returned to Tortorici, Sicily with her family. As a young woman she became a licensed seamstress and later married her late husband, Peter Indriolo in Acquedolci, Sicily on Sept. 26, 1953. A year later with dreams for a better life, Peter and Bessie moved back to the United States to raise their family in Jamestown, N.Y.

Bessie was employed by National Worsted Mills and then Worked at Truck-Lite for 20 years. In earlier years, she and Peter were the owners of George’s Tavern in Brooklyn square.

Bessie was an adoring grandmother to eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She loved to take them out for ice-cream, attending their sporting events, and watching their community shows. When all her grandchildren grew up and moved across the country, she made sure to get on a plane and see them. Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories were when she used to slip them money and told them not to tell their parents.

During her retirement she mastered knitting and crocheting. She made sure everyone had a handmade blanket. Bessie was an amazing cook and baker. You could always find her in the kitchen making Italian specialties. She also took great pride in tending her beautiful garden. The fruits of her labor were regularly used to make her homemade sauce for family every Sunday.

Bessie is survived by her son Joseph (Julie) Indriolo of Las Vegas, daughters, Mary and Antoinette Indriolo both of Jamestown, grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Adamiszyn of Las Vegas, Katie (Anthony) Camblin of Rochester, Lori Indriolo of Las Vegas, Dr. Lindsay Stronz of Colorado, Meaghan Stronz of Jamestown, Andrew Stronz of Texas, Emily Indriolo of Rochester, and Elizabeth Indriolo of Manhattan, two great grandchildren, Zachary Adamiszyn and Kieran Camblin.
