Stephen N. Elliott

MAYVILLE – Stephen N. Elliott, 88, of Mayville, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at the Heritage Green Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Greenhurst, N.Y. following a lengthy illness.

He was born Oct. 24, 1932 in Mayville, N.Y. the son of the late Nathaniel Y. Elliott I and Velma Neckers Elliott.

Steve attended Mayville Central School, graduating in 1950 before attending Alfred University where he earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration. After college he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

After his honorable discharge from the Army Steve began his forty-year career in the Insurance Industry, having retired from the Mayville Tremaine Agency. He was also the owner and operator of Chautauqua Point Golf Course.

Steve was a 60 year member and honorary member of the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club, a member of the Peacock Lodge #696 F&AM Masonic Lodge in Mayville, a fifty seven year season ticket holder of the Buffalo Bills, a member of the Sea Lion Committee, a member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville where he served on the Vestry for many years, the Chautauqua County Investment Club, the William L. Travis Post 493 Mayville American Legion, the PGA Association, The Jamestown War Vets Recreation Inc, the Vikings Lodge Lake Park, and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, spending his winters in Lake Placid, Florida, traveling with his family, coaching his son’s little league baseball team, going to the casino, going to the annual Elliott Family Reunion, and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Steve is survived by his daughter; Mary (James) Bradford of Mayville, N.Y., three granddaughters; Audrey (Nathan) Griewisch of Forestville, N.Y., Corinne Elliott of Mayville, N.Y., and Kirsten Elliott, US Air Force in Oklahoma, two step grandchildren; Joshua and Desirae Bradford of Jamestown, N.Y., and two great granddaughters; Delaney and Cambria Griewisch.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife; Marilyn Winchester Elliott, whom he married August 21, 1952 at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Mayville, a son; Christopher Stephen Elliott, and a brother; Nathaniel Y. Elliott II.

A private graveside service at the Mayville Cemetery will take place at the convenience of the family with military honors. The Rev Richard Elberfeld will officiate. A public celebration will be held at a future date to be announced.
