Loyd J. Chilson

CATTARAUGUS – Loyd J. Chilson, 80, died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at the home of his son, Jonathan L. Chil-son, in Rochester, N.Y. He was born April 28, 1940. in Susquehanna, Pa., the son of Lester J. and Irene (Walker) Chilson. He lived in Cattaraugus for 54 years.

Loyd graduated from Susquehanna High School in 1958, Mansfield State College in 1966 and re-ceived his Masters in Edu-cation from SUNY Fredo-nia. He taught mathematics at Cattaraugus Central High School for 29 years. He was a member of Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church and served as treasurer for many years.

He was a councilman on the New Albion Town Board then later served as town supervisor for several terms. He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers and Lets Travel Club in Cattaraugus. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army from April 4, 1960, and discharged on March 31, 1966.

He was predeceased by his father, Lester J. Chilson, his mother, Irene (Walker) Chilson, his brother, Boyd L. Chilson, his sister, Nor-ma J. (Chilson) Glover and his wife Ruth E. (Reese) Chilson whom he married on April 13, 1963. Loyd and Ruth were high school sweethearts and married 43 years at the time of her death.

He is survived by a son, Jonathan L. (Alissa) Chil-son of Rochester, N.Y., a daughter, Rebecca I. Piegari of Naples, N.Y., four granddaughters, Sarah F. (Spencer) Jensen of Columbia, S.C., Abigail R. (Joseph) Palmer, Rachel E. Chilson both of Rochester, N.Y., Rochelle E. Piegari of Naples, NY, three grand-sons, Nathanael L. Chilson, Samuel J. Chilson both of Rochester, N.Y., Julian R. Piegari of Naples, N.Y., one great-granddaughter, Ruth F. Jensen of Colum-bia, S.C.

A funeral service will be held by invitation only on Saturday, Jan., 16, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Roberts Memori-al Free Methodist Church in Cattaraugus, N.Y. The funeral service will also be broadcast live on the Roberts Memorial Church Facebook page. There will be no visitation to comply with New York State CO-VID-19 guidelines.

Burial will be in the Ni-chols Cemetery in April 2021.
