James V. Hawkins

James V. Hawkins

On Jan 17, 2021, James V. Hawkins entered the loving embrace of his savior, Jesus Christ. He was not afraid and welcomed the release from his failing earthly body and is now running in his new perfect one. He was born May 31, 1951, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Lonzo H. Hawkins Sr. and Doris Bensink Hawkins. He graduated from Southwestern High School in Lakewood, N.Y., in 1969.

Hawk, as anyone who knew him affectionately referred to him, was joyful Christian who made it his mission in life to spread the Word to all who would listen. He was an avid NASCAR fan and now will be able to meet his favorite driver of all time, Dale Earnhardt Sr. His early life was spent working with cars in all capacities, including building super late model race cars. His passion then turned to cooking and he became a chef, graduating from the Carl Lancaster Academy in Berkeley, Calif.

He went on to teach cooking skills to young culinary graduates at the Athenaeum Hotel and Bellinger Hall in Chautauqua, N.Y. He owned two restaurants of his own, Hawk’s Home Cookin in Jamestown, N.Y., and The Hawk’s Table in Spring Hill, Fla. He retired in 2016.

He was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife, Christine Pickering Hawkins; his son, Joshua James Hawkins; a stepson, William S. Emo; a stepdaughter, Suzanne C. Emo; a brother, Lonzo H. Hawkins Jr.; a sister, Debbie Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

His was life well lived and he will forever be remembered as having “looked good.”

No visitation or service will be held at this time.
