Stuart E. "Stu" Northrop, 96, of The Villages, Fla., formerly of Springdale Avenue, Jamestown, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2020 in Florida.
A native of Jamestown, he was born June 3, 1924, the son of the late Clarence "Rusty" and Audrey Curtis Northrop.
He was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Stuart was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist's mate second class and as a nose gunner until the end of the war and honorable discharged in 1946.
Prior to his retirement in 2001, he and his wife owned and operated the Christian Book Cellar for 17 years. He had also worked at Stateside Motors for 26 years as sales manager.
While living in Jamestown, he was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church, Flying Aces of Falconer, Button Valley Bombers radio control airplane club, Jamestown Rifle Club and as an avid golfer, belonged to Chautauqua Golf Club. In his younger days, he raced with Sports Car Club of America for 14 years.
Surviving is his daughter Suellen Northrop of The Villages, Fla.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Evie) Couchenour Northrop, whom he married Sept. 21, 1946, and who died Dec. 16, 2013; and a sister, Louise Anderson.
Services will be announced at a later date.
Visitation will not be observed.
