Helen Joan Gurzinski
RANDOLPH — Helen Joan Gurzinski, 88, of Wadsworth Street, Randolph, passed away Monday (Nov. 16, 2020) in the home of her son, Stash (Barbara) Gurzinski, after an extended illness.
She was born July 2, 1932, in Nanticoke, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Eleanor Foux.
Helen attended the Nanticoke High School in Luzerne County, Pa. After moving to Randolph in 1965, Helen was a home maker and had also worked at the Randolph American Legion in the Kitchen.
Mrs. Gurzinski was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph and the Altar and Rosary Society, she was a member of the Randolph American Legion Post Unit 181 Auxiliary and Randolph Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6533 Auxiliary.
Family was important to Helen and Stan, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed collecting angels and bowling in the Tuesday night ladies league at the former Twi-Lite Lanes in Randolph.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Shields and husband, Chet of Randolph and Elizabeth Yannie and her husband, Jim of West Grove, Pa.; two sons: John Gurzinski (Melanie Shields) and Stanley “Stash” Gurzinski Jr., and wife, Barb, all of Randolph; six grandchildren: Kelly (Adam) Lavelle, Annie Shields, Katelyn (Alex) Lichorat, Ian Yannie, John and Andrew Gurzinski; two step grandsons: Chris Hill and David (Shena Anderson) Ahlquist; a great grandson, Noah Lavelle; three step great-grandsons: Brett Andrzejewski, Hayden Anderson and David Ahlquist; as well as a sister, Charlotte Kruk of Nanticoke, Pa.
She was preceded by her parents, husband of 56 years, Stanley J. Gurzinski, whom she married on April 16, 1955, in St. Francis Catholic Church in Nanticoke, Pa., and who preceded her on Feb. 22, 2012; a brother, John; and sisters: Elizabeth, Phyllis and Lorraine.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 22, 2020) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the St. Patrick’s Church in Randolph. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Randolph St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
