Susan H. Fulford

Susan Hastings Fulford, 82, of North Port, Fla., and Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 2:53 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 2020, in Jamestown.

She was born Nov. 16, 1937, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Albert J. and Priscilla Whipple Hastings and was the wife of Jack L. Fulford, whom she married July 20, 1957. They were married for 63 years.

Sue graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955 and attended Jamestown Community College where she received her associate of arts degree.

When she was first married, she was employed by Marine Midland Bank of Jamestown, then became a stay at home mom after the birth of their first daughter. After 17 years at home, Sue went to work for MRC Bearings in the distribution department and retired in 1998, as supervisor of the Falconer shipping department. After retirement from MRC, She worked for 10 years at the Athenaeum Hotel in Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua, N.Y.

Sue was a member and past president of the Persell Grade School PTA, a member and volunteer of various organizations including the Jamestown Audubon Society, Roger Tory Peterson Institute, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, South Hills Country Club and the Englewood United Methodist Church in Englewood Fla. She was chairman of the Beautification Committee and volunteer of several committees in their community of Harbor Cove in North Port.

She lived her entire life in Jamestown until 1999, when her and Jack retired to Florida, to spend the winter months in the sunshine state.

Sue enjoyed gardening, reading, golfing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving besides her husband, are three daughters; Peggy Malone (Larry) of Westminster, Colo., Rhonda Johnson of Henderson, Nev., and Tamara Betts (Dick) of Greenhurst, N.Y.; a son, Brett Fulford (Jennifer) of Cranberry Township, Pa.; seven granddaughters; Larissa, Halie and Cami Malone, Lauren and Paige Johnson, Ella and Laci Fulford; two sisters: Cindy Putnam of Willow St. Pa., and Kathy Johnson (Gordon) of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, a private family only service will be held in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Mel McGinnis, pastor of the Kiantone Congregational Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

A celebration of life to honor Sue will be held for family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Jamestown Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Road, Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the Chautauqua County Humane Society, 2825 Strunk Road, Jamestown, NY 14701 or to a charity of one’s choice.
