Janice B. Hagglund

Janice B. Hagglund, of Woodhaven Drive, Jamestown, formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., was called to her heavenly home on her 93rd birthday, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020, in UPMC Chautauqua.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Ross Mills, N.Y., a daughter of the late Raymond and Vivian Huckleberry Peterson.

Janice was a 1945 graduate of Falconer Central School.

Before her retirement years she had worked at the former Jamesway Store for six years, the Lutheran Book Store for 14 years and later at Ames Department Store for three years.

She was a charter member of the Lakewood Baptist Church, where she served on many boards and committees over the years.

She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother, who loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles, adult coloring books, crocheting and reading.

Surviving are her three children; Dianne Shaw, Stephen (Valerie) Hagglund, both of Jamestown and Karin (Richard) Newton of Coweta, Okla.; nine grandchildren; Traci (Michael) Stevenson, Kendra Shaw, Denise (Michael) Felder, Ingrid Hagglund, Eric (Beth) Hagglund, Nicholas (Sheila) Hagglund, Chad (Kimber) Newton, Ryan (Karli) Newton and Jana Newton; 20 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Kenneth Peterson of New York, and Stanley Peterson of Colorado.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ture H. Hagglund, whom she married Sept. 20, 1947, and who died Aug. 14, 2001; three brothers: Victor, Lloyd and Richard Peterson; and a sister, Carol Fox.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Lakewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Daniel Cook, retired pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on a walk through basis from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home, where social distancing will be observed and masks must be worn while in the funeral home. The family will also receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Monday in the church.
