Richard Milton Curtiss

Richard Milton Curtiss, 95, of Sherman, N.Y., died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at his home. Richard was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Warsaw, N.Y., the son of Milton B. and Cora Brown Curtiss.
He grew up in Warsaw, N.Y, and attended school there, graduating from Warsaw High School. In April of 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he saw action in the European Theater during World War II. Richard was a recipient of the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1945 at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., Richard continued his education at Colorado State College, where he studied basic engineering.
As a professional arborist, Richard was employed by the David Tree Company and was the owner of Curtiss Arborist. He was an active member of the Community Church in Sherman, the Lions Club, Mayville Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Richard had several hobbies. He enjoyed, hunting, fishing, scuba diving and golf.
His true passion in his life was working in his business, Curtiss Arborist.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey A. Curtiss (Mary Grimes); his daughter, Lisa M. Curtiss Buescher (H. Martin Buescher); his granddaughter, Jennifer A. Curtiss Meacham; great-grandchildren: Brianna L. Meacham and Devin M. Meacham.
Besides his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Van Earden Curtiss, who died in 2013; brothers: David and John Curtiss; and his sister, Margaret Smith.
Calls maybe made Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Spitzer Funeral Home, 135 Miller St., Sherman, N.Y. NYS COVID-19 regulations require masks be worn and six feet social distancing observed. Due to COVID-19 regulations capacity is limited. Please expect delays. A private family service will be held on Thursday.
Interment, with full military honors, will be in the Holland Cemetery, Clymer, N.Y., Thursday at 3 p.m.
The family extends it’s gratitude and thanks to the caregivers and family members that were present at the time of Mr. Curtiss’ passing.
