William F. Hennon

The family of William F. Hennon, formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., now residing at Orchard Heights in Orchard Park, N.Y., announces with sadness the passing of William in Buffalo General Hospital, Buffalo, N.Y., on July 27th of cancer.

Bill, the son of L. Butler and Irene Elizabeth Hennon, was born in Wampum, Pa. As a child he began playing basketball for his father, L. Butler Hennon and practiced many hours a day, his team won several state championships. After graduating from Wampum High School, he entered Westminster College, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Mater of Science in history and education. His first teaching position was in Penn Hills, Pa., where he taught social studies, coached basketball and tennis.

In 1971, Bill married Cornelia (Kuhn) Hennon, ada CK, a Spanish teacher for the Penn Hills district. The family moved to Jamestown, N.Y., in 1998, where both accepted positions with the Falconer Central School District in Falconer, N.Y. Bill continued teaching social studies and economics. Bill very much enjoyed coaching girls basketball and boys tennis. His boys doubles team excelled to making it to a state championship at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City. Mention golf and he was ready to play! Dick’s Sporting Goods in Erie, Pa., was a favorite destination, while his wife was in DSW! A win win! An avid hunter, Bill anticipated hunting season every year.

Bill was a very kind man to everyone who knew him, He truly believed that persistence and dedication were necessary in all of life’s endeavors. His wife, Cornelia, of 49 years and two sons: Todd and Mark Hennon, MD survive him. Bill was well supported by his sons as his health deteriorated rather quickly. Bill was grandfather to six loving grandchildren: Mira Danielle, Oliver Mark, Linus David, Myles Butler, children of Mark and Teresa Hennon of Buffalo, N.Y., Phoebe Irene and Calvin Paul Hennon, children of Todd and Molly Hennon, who reside in Summerville, S.C. Bill’s siblings include; Dr. Don Hennon (Madeline) of Pittsburgh, Pa., RuthAnn Sherman (Tom) of Charlottesville, Va., and Janice Fowkes, Pittsburgh, Pa. Several nieces and nephews contributed much to Bill’s life.

A family gathering will be held at a future date. Burial will be in the family plot in Wampum, Pa. The family truly appreciates the phone calls and cards expressing their sympathy with comforting messages.

Bill was a member at the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown N.Y. He served as an elder for the two Presbyterian congregations. The family suggests making any donations to the Wampum Presbyterian Church, Wampum, PA 16157.
