Barclay Donald Potts

Barclay Donald Potts, 92, formerly of Hazeltine Avenue and Aldren Avenue in Jamestown, N.Y., went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of July 31, 2020, at Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Greenhurst, N.Y.

Barclay was born at home at 37¢ Scott St., in Tonawanda, N.Y. on Nov. 26, 1927, to Orland and Edna Loeswick Potts.

Barclay began working at Mattheis Milk in Tonawanda at the age of 16, while attending Tonawanda High School. He graduated in 1945. He continued to work in the milk industry for Dairylea Milk in Tonawanda and Jamestown and later for Upstate Milk in Jamestown for a total of 47 years. In his retirement, he worked doing maintenance at Camp Mission Meadows for 23 years until his second re-tirement at the age of 86. At Mission Meadows, he was given the nickname, “Sweet Barclay.”

Barclay married the love of his life, Lucille Crandall Potts, on Nov 4, 1950, in Tonawanda, N.Y. He was transferred to Jamestown in 1956, and bought a home on Hazeltine Avenue, where they lived for 51 years, raising their family. Lucille died on Aug. 4, 2018, after almost 68 years of marriage.

Barclay was a member of First Covenant Church for 63 years, where he served as a deacon, usher and Sun-day school treasurer. He also helped as a handy man around the church. Barclay loved his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed garden-ing, bowling, hunting, boat-ing, fishing, horseshoes and traveling. He and Lucille enjoyed 24 winters together in Florida, and had many wonderful “snow bird” friends. Barclay was a Boy Scout leader and served as a swim official for high school and college swim-ming.

In addition to his wife, Barclay is preceded in death by his son, Barclay “Skip” Potts Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Jan Hallstrom Potts; three brothers: William Potts, James Potts and wife, Gloria and Edward Potts; his sister, Sally Ann and her husband, Joseph Russell, his sister, Karen and hus-band, Joseph Dexter; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Geerkin.

He is survived by a brother, Richard (Mina) Potts of Crystal Beach, On-tario; a sister, Judith Geer-kin of Tonawanda, N.Y.; and two sisters-in-law: Joanne “Wana” Potts of Dunham, N.C., and Beverly Kallin of Bradenton, Fla. His surviving children are a daughter, Carolyn Potts of Jamestown, N.Y.; a son, David Potts of Austin Tex-as; a daughter, Linda (Robert) Walrod of James-town, N.Y.; and a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Potts of Richland, N.Y. His grandchildren include Timothy (Kristen Peterson) McGinnis, Patrick (Jenny) McGinnis, Janelle Potts, Joelle (Duane) VanEtten, Brett Potts, Aaron Potts, Annemarie Potts, Lisa (Matthew) Stanton and Sandra Walrod. He has three great-grandchildren: Elliana, Isaac and Emma Stanton. He is also survived by his good friend, Tim Timblin; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 1-3 p.m., at the Lind Funeral Home.

A private family service will be held at the funeral home officiated by the Rev Adam Rohler of First Covenant Church.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
