James F. Strong

James F. Strong, 82, of West Ellicott, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020, in his home.

An area resident for most of his life, he was born Sept. 30, 1937, in Wheeling WVa., the only child of the late Wallace F. and Dorothy L. Melquist Strong.

He was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the New York Army National Guard.

Jim was proud to be involved in the local car business working in automotive sales, service, and parts for several dealerships for over 50 years and later worked for Advance Auto Parts.

Jim was a true “car buff” and loved his ’49 Ford Club Coupe and antique cars. He was a member of the Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Auto Club of America, the Early Ford V-8 Club and enjoyed going to car shows. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings, War Vets Recreation Club and the Chautauqua Lake Fish Club. He also served on the board of the Lucille Wright Air Museum, a member of the Geneseo War Plane Association, was publicity chairman for the New York State American Cancer Society and volunteered for the Balloon Rally Sky Fest Committee.

He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, who loved watching his grandson’s activities.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda L. Vetillaro Strong, whom he married March 22, 1974; a son, Curtis J. (Julie Mangine) Strong of Lakewood, N.Y., and his three grandsons: Cooper J. Strong, Evan M. Strong and Collin J. Strong, all of Lakewood.

In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation observed.
