Sally T. Bootey

Sally Thomas Bootey, 93, of Lakewood, N.Y., passed away at 7:05 a.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in her home.

Sally was born in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Herbert L. and Lura Eunice Thomas.

She was a 1944 graduate Jamestown High School, and graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Following graduate work at Buffalo State College, she received a masters degree from Syracuse University at Chautauqua.

Sally married Jamestown attorney, the late E. Robert Bootey on Dec. 25, 1955, and he passed away on Sept. 3, 2004.

The mother of five children and host mother of two foreign exchange students, she served on multiple boards, committees and organizations, including the Jamestown YWCA Board of Directors and Jamestown AFS Selection Committee.

In earlier years, she was a home economics teacher at Lincoln Junior High School for seven years before becoming a full time mom. She was a founder and partner for 30 years in Fashion Fabrics of Lakewood, N.Y., where she enjoyed socializing with customers and residents in the heart of Lakewood.

As a longtime Lakewood resident, she actively served for 40 years with the Lakewood Women’s Club. Additionally, she was a member of the Lakewood Beautification Committee, a director of the Lakewood Community Development Corp, a member of the Women’s Club Garden Group, the Busti-Lakewood Golden Ages Club, the Tennway Group, the International Relations Group, the Lakewood Rod Gun Club Women’s Auxiliary and was a longtime member of the Village of Lakewood Planning Board. She had also been active with the Jmestown High School class of 1944 reunion committee.

She is survived by her five children: Barbara (Manny) Hoag of McAllister, Mon., Edward (Sherry) Bootey of Vonore, Tenn., and St. Augustine, Fla., Bonny (Randy) Smith of Jamestown, N.Y., Mary (Randy) Currie of Lakewood, N.Y., and John (Jill) Bootey of Hull, Mass.; nine grandchildren: Robert (Nicole) Chambers of Flagstaff, Ariz., William (Alissa) Chambers of Helena, Mont., Alison Smith of Arlington, Va., Riley Smith of Lakewood, Ohio, Julie Currie Toennis of Thornton, Colo., Michael (Jessica) Currie of Lakewood, N. Y,, Brynn (David) Fagerstrom of Jamestown, N.Y., Thomas (Alicia) Bootey of Boston, Mass., and Benjamin Bootey of Boston, Mass.; and six great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Heather, Betsy, Pat, Pam, Denise, Yvonne and Tabitha for the loving care and companionship you all provided to our mother. We are eternally grateful.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
