Ruth Rachel Serrano

Early Friday morning, May 29, 2020, our precious mother, Ruth Rachel Serrano, peacefully joined our Creator after a brief illness.

She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., on Dec. 7, 1931, to Diego and Carmella LoPresti.

Mom graduated from Jamestown High School, Jamestown Business College, and was in the first graduating class of Jamestown Community College. She was the secretary for Mushroom Transportation Corp. for 32 years, and the receptionist for Chautauqua Opportunities prior to her retirement in 2001.

She was active in her church life from youth group, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, church treasurer and church secretary, serving on the Church Council. She attended Busti Federated Church. Mom had an ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers.

Throughout her life she maintained a sweet demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many. This explains why grocery shopping was always a three-hour event. She could also tell you the price of almost every item in the store because she was shopping.

Prior to her illness, she loved to read and had several books next to her living room chair and her nightstand next to her Bible and daily devotional. Every night she did the crossword puzzle and jumble puzzle in the newspaper. Christmas cookies were her mission. She began making cookies the first week of December making no less than four batches each of eight different recipes-all from her little kitchen on Falconer Street. Mom was a Breast Cancer survivor. She loved spending time with family and friends who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith.

She was a wonderful Mom to Deborah Ruth (Dana) Cooper, Caryl M. (Tom) Bergstue, and Stephen R. (Stephanie) Serrano; a loving Grammy to Jennifer (David) Peres, Kimberly (Heath) Dewrell, Jonathan (Lauren) Cooper, Tricia Bergstue, Kristin (Evan) Oakes, Elizabeth Laperriere and fiancee Lindley Isaacs, and Maegan (Tony) Harris: and adoring GG to Caleb, Ethan and Lucas Peres, Stephen and Daniel Dewrell, Emily and Noelle Cooper, Henry Oakes, Ava and Josiah Laperriere, Noah and Johanna Isaacs, Simone and Sophia Harris.

In addition to her parents, Mom has joined her dear sister, Florence Aponte; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Heaven.

The family thanks all of the staff members at Memory Gardens and Heritage Park for their loving care and support.

A celebration of her life will be held and announced at a later date.
