Michael Edwin Lettieri

Michael Edwin Lettieri passed away, after a short illness, at Heritage Park, on May 7, 2020. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1933. He moved with his family to Jamestown, N.Y., in 1967.

Michael will be remembered for his many talents and activities. A notable entertainer all his life, Michael shared his singing, keyboard and comedy at various restaurants, nursing facilities, and church and city functions. An avid sportsman, he managed and pitched for the champion St. James Softball Team for over 10 years and played roller hockey till in his 40s. Michael spread his good cheer wherever he went, leaving waiters and cashiers with smiles to last a day.

Michael was transferred to Jamestown as manager of Robert Hall Clothing Store from 1967 till the chain’s national closing in 1977. He was later a Prudential agent till early retirement in 1991. Michael was a “Jack of all trades,” as plumber, electrician, car repairman, and home builder and renovator for all his family.

He won the Sharpshooter Medal while in the U. S. Marine Corps, serving in Korea during the Korean War. After the war he took flying lessons in hopes of being a pilot, but a permanent injury to his elbow from the Korean War prevented that goal. For many years Michael has been part of the St. James Church “Peace and Justice Committee,” writing letters to Congress monthly on war, hunger, and justice issues.

Michael and Theresa Michonski were married on Aug. 29, 1959, and last year had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Michael is survived by his loving wife Theresa; three loving children: daughter, Valerie Lettieri Mann (Woody Mann), grandson Cameron O’Brien, and granddaughter Morgan O’Brien; son, Lance A. Lettieri and grandson, Alijah Lettieri; and son, Andre A. Lettieri. Also survived by sister, Josephine Provenzano; brother-in-law, Richard Michonski; sister-in-law, Mary Lettieri Glassford; nieces: Jacqueline (Samuel) Scaduto, Bonnie (Paul) Cotter and Maryann Thompson; and nephew, Michael (Teresa) Karlson.
