Agnes Frances (Saunders) Winkelman

WESTFIELD — Agnes Frances (Saunders) Winkelman, 100, of Kent Street, Westfield, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pa., following a brief illness.

Agnes was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Westfield, N.Y., a daughter of the late William and Katherine (Dodge) Saunders.

A Westfield resident most all her life, Agnes had been a dedicated homemaker who credits her long life to family and love. She was a humble woman who worked cleaning houses during the 1950s and 60s as well as working for a time in the cafeteria of Westfield Academy and Central School.

She loved to play cards and cherished the friendship and fellowship of her local card club. She enjoyed tying and picking grapes as well as working in her yard.

Survivors include her son, Troy (Clara) Winkelman and two daughters: Sally (Ron) Catalano and Carol (Alan) Korinek, all of Westfield. She is further survived by her 12 grandchildren; 26 great- grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren with two on the way very soon. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Stanley F. Winkelman, whom she married on Sept. 6, 1941, and who passed away on Feb. 23, 1970; two sons: Theodore “Ted” Winkelman and her infant son, Jack Winkelman; as well as by her siblings: Ted, Jim, Earl and William Saunders, Treva Ottaway, Audrey Caddis and Violet Nellis.

Due to the recent CDC and Health Department guidelines concerning the recent COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in Westfield Cemetery.

People with fever, flu, cough, sore throat or other flu-like symptoms are not permitted to visit. People who have traveled to a high-risk area for COVID-19 or had contact with a person known to be infected with COVID-19 are not permitted to visit. If you feel you are at risk for contracting COVID-19 do not visit.
