Raymond Carl Turck

Raymond Carl Turck, 95, of Sherman, passed away on Friday, Feb. 7, 2020 at the Heritage Green Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greenhurst.

He was born May 24, 1924 in Wattsburg, Pa., the son of the late Ernest Turck and Myrtle Pardoe.

Ray was a 1942 graduate of Clymer Central School. After graduating he joined the Army Air Force and proudly served his country during WWII.

After his military service Ray became a dairy farmer in Sherman. He also worked on construction of homes in Point Chautauqua and was a truck driver.

Ray was a lifetime member of the Westfield VFW Post 6764 where he served as Post Commander and Chaplain. He was also involved with the Disabled American Vets (DAV) where he served as a driver and logged over 100,000 miles for them.

He enjoyed reading, gardening, hunting, fishing, farming, volunteering with disabled veterans, helping to build his children’s homes, and taking care of the Stockton Firemen’s Grounds.

Ray is survived by his loving companion Marge Holmes of Brocton; his five children, Darlene Webber of Fredonia, Annabelle (Jim) Chase of Mayville, Alberta (James) Parker of Westfield, Walter Raymond Turck of Sherman, and Tamme (Douglas) Steffan of Sherman; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister; Marilyn (Claude) Ball of Hudson, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Gertrude Stevens Turck, whom he married Aug. 22, 1957 in Sherman; his parents; two daughters, Karen Hartmann, and Barbara Green; two brothers, Howard and Gerald Turck; and his stepmother, Doris Turck.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 at the Lakewood Baptist Church in Lakewood, 150 Erie St, 14750. The Rev. Jarod Heaton will officiate. Military honors will also be presented by the Westfield VFW following the church service. Following all services, a reception will be held at the church. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
