Lena M. Elliott (VanderSchaaf)

Lena was born June 17, 1945 to Floyd and Elizabeth (Damon) VanderSchaaf.

She was raised in Clymer, N.Y., and attended Clymer schools, graduating from Clymer Central School in 1964. Lena was dedicated to her church, family, career and community. She was a nurse’s aide at Corry Memorial Hospital for 41 ½ years. A longtime member of the Laona United Methodist Church, where she served as a trustee, was heavily involved with the outreach committee and served as president of the United Methodist Women at Laona United Methodist Church. Lena was a member of the Fredonia Memorial American Legion Post 59 Woman’s Auxiliary, having held various offices over the years. She was also active with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Brooks Memorial Hospital for several years, the Brocton Senior Citizens Group and the Cassadaga Senior Citizens Group. She loved to travel, square dance and roller skate.

Lena is survived by her husband, Daniel E. Elliott; daughters: Lisa (Rob) Hart of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Lynette Swanson of Jamestown, N.Y.; her sister, Leona (late Bruce) Anderson of Lakewood, N.Y.; former son-in-law, Mark Herberg; stepchildren: Eric (Cindy) Elliott of Fredonia, Matthew (Bobbie Jo) Elliott of North East, Pa., Denise (John) Stanford of Bessemer, Ala., and Jessica Elliott also of Bessemer, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Lena is predeceased by her parents and two infant brothers: Harold and Ronald VanderSchaaf.

Calling hours will be Wednesday. Feb. 5, 2020, from 6-8 p.m. at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia, N.Y., and Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020 from 10-11a.m. at the Laona United Methodist Church, 9636 Wilson Road, Fredonia, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
