Cynthia Moran Gallagher

Cynthia Moran Gallagher, 86, of 175 Aldren Ave., formerly of 15 Chestnut St., died Tuesday Feb. 4, 2020, in UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.

A Jamestown resident all of her life, she was born Nov. 29, 1933, a daughter of James and Celestine Tyrrell Moran.

She was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and attended Pennsylvania State University.

She had been employed by Bank of Jamestown, Ohio Bell Telephone Company and later Pearson’s Menswear.

Always active in the community, she was a member of 100 Member Club at Jamestown High School, former WCA Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Apostles Parish, Altar and Rosary Society of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Chautauqua Region Multiple Sclerosis Society, Retired Senior Volunteers Program (RSVP) and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary.

She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Cynthia volunteered at the Chautauqua County Humane Society and RSVP.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her hobby was knitting for her family, RSVP and the Cover Girls at Lutheran. Cynthia had a great affection for both children and stuffed bears, so her service at RSVP connects these two pastimes in the “Bear Ministries.” She donated hundreds of bears that were distributed by RSVP to children at many local agencies, including food pantries and other service organizations in the immediate area.

Surviving are her husband, James A. Gallagher, whom she married Aug. 30, 1958 in Sacred Heart Church, Lakewood; two children: James A. Gallagher Jr. (wife, Michele) of Homer, N.Y. and Libby Gallagher Franke (husband, Warren) of Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren: Andrew, Hannah and Madeline Gallagher, all of Homer, N.Y., and William Franke of Ames, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents in 1958; a sister, Patricia Moran Carlson in 1998; brothers: Robert Moran in 1994, James Moran Jr. in 2008, Richard Moran in 2015 and an infant brother, Thomas Moran in 1934.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, will be celebrant.

Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
