Art Mathews
Art Mathews, 60, of Spring Street, Jamestown N.Y. died peacefully at UPMC Hamot in Erie, Pa., on February 14, 2020.
He was born Oct. 31, 1959, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late John and Betty Mathews.
Art attended Frewsburg Central School. For much of his life Art served Jamestown as a bartender and cook at the Grog Shop, the Eats Cafe, and later on would help start up and manage Shawbucks.
Art enjoyed watching the Vikings play on Sundays. He loved spending time with family on Christmas and attending his brother Jeff’s yearly barbeque on Memorial Day weekend. Art enjoyed going out to Gurnsey Hollow and camping with friends and family.
Art is survived by his beloved, dog, Mocha; three brothers: John Clark of Jamestown, N.Y., Jeff Mathews and his wife. Sue of Frewsburg, N.Y., and Steve Mathews of Jamestown, N.Y.; his two sisters: April Bryant of Modesto, Calif., and Susan Miller of Jamestown, N.Y.; and his best friend, Louise “Weezie” James, whom he shared Mocha with. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews: Alanna, Holly, Sarah, Jason, Kristy, Jamie, Chris, Tina, Melvin, Josh Anna and Nicky.

Art’s wishes were to not have a funeral or memorial service but , a celebration of his life that will be scheduled at a later time.
