Elizabeth A. ‘‘Betty” Secor

Elizabeth Ann Secor completed her walk of God’s work on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020, peacefully with her family at her side. She was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Jamestown, N.Y., and was the only child of the late Eric and Evelyn Swanson Saff.

Betty was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Before her retirement, she was employed in the personnel department for the former Sears Department Store in Lakewood, N.Y., for 22 years. In earlier years, she had worked for the Jamestown Telephone Company.

Betty married Garth “Bud” Secor on Sept. 17, 1950, at the First Mission Covenant Church in Jamestown.

Betty was so full of life and loved to laugh at just about anything. To describe her was to say she was a fun loving daughter, wife, mother, neighbor, and a true friend to many and her kind spirit and smile will be remembered by those who held her dear.

Betty was a member of Norden Women’s Club and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, now Tree of Life Lutheran Church. Both her and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels for 14 years after they retired to give back to the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Garth H. “Bud” Secor who died Feb 18, 2018; and her oldest daughter, Susan Beth Gustafson, who died June 24, 2008

Betty is survived her daughters: Shari (Rick)) Erickson of Lakewood, N.Y., and Shelly (Jerry) Davis of Jamestown, N.Y.; one son, Steven (Linda) Secor of Seneca, S,C,; a son-in-law, David Gustafson of Leland, N.C.; a foreign exchange student, Zaiton Md. Noh of Malaysia, who lived with the Secor’s during a year of high school and has remained very close to the family; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Kelsey) Gilmore of Faquay Varina, N.C., Jeff Gustafson of Newmarket, N.H., Nicki (Ryan) Oswald of Wellsboro, Pa., Eric (Jennifer Torres) Davis of Jamestown, N.Y., Leigh Erickson of Pinole, Calif., Lindsey Erickson (Solomon) Spigel of Portland, Maine, Derek Peterson of Banner Elk, N.C., and Jaclyn Peterson of Seneca, S.C.; six great-grandchildren: Stella, Colby and Maxton Gilmore, Savannah Gustafson, Reece and Nola Oswald.

A memorial service will be held in Christ Chapel of Lutheran Social Services at a date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Lind Funeral Home Inc.
