Jean I. Harper

Jean I. Harper, 89, formerly of Laona and Stockton, N.Y., passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at Bergquist Memorial-Assisted Living by Heritage Ministries, Gerry, N.Y.

She was born Feb. 11, 1930, in Charlotte Center, N.Y., the daughter of the late Wallace E. and Milded Davis Horton.

Jean was a member of the Charlotte Center Church. She was raised and educated in Charlotte Center area and always considered Charlotte Center her home. She was a 1947 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School.

She worked on the family farm, Art Metal, was a cook at Cassadaga Valley Central School, Heritage Village and head cook at Job Corps. She also worked with her daughter, Sharon at her flower shop, The Rose of Sharon Floral Shop.

Jean enjoyed cleaning and cooking. She was famous for her baked beans and pies. She loved family holidays and picnics. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family, especially all of her grandchildren. Jean was a delight to all whom knew her and had a great sense of humor.

Jean is survived by three daughters: Dianne L. (Ernest) Cockshott of Gerry, N.Y., Sharon A. (Richard) Fenton of Charlotte Center, N.Y., and Joan Pearl Planty (Jim White) of Fredonia, N.Y.; a son, Clint W. (Kelly) Harper of Brocton, N.Y.; ten grandchildren: Todd, Scott and Sean Fenton, Stacy Swanson, LeAnne Traub, Steve Planty, Tracy, Troy, Clint and Robbie Harper; 19 great- grandchildren; three great- great-grandchilden; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clinton Harper, whom she married January 23, 1949, and who died July 30, 1997; a son, Wallace W. Harper; a daughter, Leona Lee Harper; a grandson, Toby Lee Cockshott; and three sisters: Myrtle Murphy, Cecile Adams and Elsie Horton.

The family suggests memorial contributions to The Western New York Chapter Buffalo Office of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 100 College Parkway, Williamsville, NY 14221.

Family and friends may call at Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, N.Y., on Thursday from noon until the time of the service at 1 p.m. Senior Chaplain Larry Petry will officiate, chaplain of Heritage Village. Burial will be in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
