Doreen H. Brugge

Doreen H. Brugge, 87, formerly of Hillview Drive, Sinclairville, N.Y., and Winchester Road. Lakewood, N.Y., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, in UPMC Chautauqua.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Aug. 29, 1932, in Jamestown, N.Y., a daughter of the late C. Albert and Florence Grant Hagstrom.

Doreen was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School and was confirmed in 1947 from the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Before her retirement, she was a secretary and bookkeeper for the Swan-Rowley Insurance Agency and earlier for the Advanced Furniture Company and for Price and Millers Attorneys at Law.

She will be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother, mother- in-law and grandmother. Her family was most important in her life and brought her so much joy.

Surviving are her two sons; Marshall (Amy) Brugge of Jamestown and David C. (devoted friend, Joyce Parker) Brugge of Frewsburg, N.Y.; two grandchildren: Dr. Sarah M. Brugge of West Seneca, N.Y., and Matthew W. Brugge of Winter Park, Colo.; two sisters: Shirley (Barry) Benson and Sandra (Robert) Christensen, both of Jamestown, her nieces and nephews: Deborah (Emil) Gunther of Ocala, Fla., Darlene (Lee) Peterson, Kristy (John) Zabrodsky, Tracy (Ted) Bogdan, Scott (Elizabeth) Christensen and Toby (Natalie) Christensen, all of Jamestown as well as many great- nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Donald W. Brugge, whom she married Dec. 27, 1952, and who died July 28, 2019; her stepfather, Roger Carlson; sister, Marilyn Carlson; and a great-niece, Lindsey Peterson.

In keeping with Doreen’s wishes, there will be no funeral service or visitation observed. A private celebration of Doreen’s life will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
