Christy E. Palermo

Christy E. Palermo, formerly of 4774 Route 380, Jamestown, passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Gerry on Dec. 19, 2019.

He was born Nov. 5, 1925, in Jamestown. to Michael and Josephine Arkeilpane Palermo. Chris was a 1943 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from November 1943 to March 1946, stationed in the Philippines.

Following the war, he worked as a foreman for a number of road construction companies. He and his late wife, Nina, owned and operated Catering By Christie and Christie’s Restaurant from 1966 to 2007.

Chris was a communicant of Holy Apostle’s Parish St. John Catholic Church. During his residency at Heritage Village, he became very involved in all of the activities afforded to him. He was a member of the Resident Council, volunteered to assist wherever he could and was named the resident of the month.

Surviving are his five children: Marie (Dan) Moomey of Jamestown, Michael (Cosie) Palermo of Jamestown, Kathleen (Ronald) DeSantis of Jamestown, Christy (Kathleen) Palermo Jr. of Rock Hill, S.C., and Nina (Alan) Gustafson of Jamestown; 15 grandchildren: Kristi (Brent) Cook, Kelly Lopez, Daniel (Krista) Moomey, Joshua Moomey, Ariel Hamlin, Michael (Tammy) Palermo Jr., Andrew (Amy) Palermo, Melissa (Jason) Wells, Andrea DeSantis (Renzo) Portella, Mary (Starr) Ryder, Philip (Vanessa) DeSantis, Angelina Snyder, Jason Palermo, Alan (Nicole) Gustafson Jr. and Kristopher (Jennifer) Gustafson; 23 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Lipari of Bemus Point; a brother-in-law, William Gullotti of Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Nina S. Paolillo, whom he married April 19, 1947, in Jamestown and who died Dec. 10, 2010; a sister, Rena Lacagno; two sisters-in- law: June Gullotti and Grace Comella; and two brothers-in-law: Frank Lipari and Leonard Comella.

Friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 22 from 2-4 p.m. at the Falconer Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held immediately after. The Rev. Dennis Mende of Holy Apostle Church, will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Chris’ family would like to thank the Heritage Village staff and administration for the loving and excellent care they provided for the last three years. He truly considered “The Village” his home. Because Chris was a fervent reader, a fund is being established to purchase additional books for use by the residents.
