Carrol M. Brockway

Carrol M. Brockway, 96, formerly of Lakewood, N.Y., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility in Greenhurst, N.Y.

She was born on September 25, 1923, in Corry, Pa., the daughter of the late Raymond and Ruth (Bemis) Vanderkooi.

Carrol was a homemaker and a former nurse’s aide. She also worked for 34 years as a housekeeper at the Chautauqua Institution. Carrol had various interests throughout the years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, reading, gardening, bingo, church, traveling, music programs and spending time with her family. She was an avid Buffalo Bills fan. Carroll was active member of the Lakewood Golder Agers, the Lakewood Auxiliary and the Busti Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her sons: William “Bill” Brockway and George “Bud” (Bonnie) Froman; daughters: Judy Stow, Pat (Ken) Sturges, Yvonne Kridler, Debbie (Jim) Cofer Sinatra, Joyce (Martin) Smith Branchaud; 23 grandchildren; many greatgrandchildren; and her sister, Rachel (Clifford) Reardon.

She is predeceased by: her first husband, George Froman; her second husband, Edward Brockway; two sons: Rexford “Paul” Froman and Danny Brockway; a daughter, Barbara Rexford; siblings: Marie Goss, Susan Jaquith, Becky Craig, Donald Vanderkooi and Elmer “Dutch” Vanderkooi.

A memorial service will be held at the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility, 3023 Route 430, Greenhurst, N.Y., on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019, at 10 a.m., with a light luncheon to follow.
