Roger R. Olson

Roger R. Olson, 88, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away at 6:39 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2019, in the comfort of his own home.

A lifelong area resident, he was born Feb. 2, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Charles O. and Selma Edstrom Olson.

He was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School, where he was a captain of the 1949 undefeated Jamestown High School football Team. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., where he played for his high school coach, Sam Hammerstrom.

Roger was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from Dec. 30, 1950 to Sept. 29, 1954, during the Korean War.

As an accomplished businessman, he was instrumental in starting the former Asphalt Service Company with Durand Peterson and Gail Gustafson, a company which later became what it is today, the Jamestown Macadam Company, serving as chief executive officer at the time of his death.

Surviving are his wife, Carla A. Sorrentino Olson, whom he married Nov. 14, 1998; his children: Thomas T. (Faith) Olson of Lakewood, N.Y., Frank Sessa (Erica Small) of Clearwater, Fla., and Nicole (Matthew) DiOrio of Fredericksburg, Va.; five grandchildren; Lindsey Olson (Joshua Zenere) of Frankfort, Ill., Aaron (Aimee) Olson and Kristien Olson (Tiffany Borst), both of Jamestown, and Rita DiOrio and Ruby DiOrio, both of Fredericksburg, Va.; five great-grandchildren: Kelsey Multack, Caleb Multack of Frankfort, Ill,, Mila Olson, Meilani Olson and Crew Olson and his close nephew, Curtis (Elizabeth) Olson, all of Jamestown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carl L. “Roy” Olson, who died March 22, 2016.

An open house to celebrate the life of Roger Olson will be held from 4-8 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Moon Brook Country Club.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, NY 14701.
