Jerome B. “Jerry” Saar

Jerome B. “Jerry” Saar, 76, of Jamestown, died Tuesday afternoon in his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease.)

A Jamestown native, he was born Oct. 30, 1943, a son of the late Victor and Audrey Besecker Saar.

He was a 1962 graduate of Bemus Point High School.

Prior to his retirement in 2008, he founded, owned and operated Saar Tire.

He was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church. In earlier years, he was an active member of the Jaycees, served as commissioner of Jamestown Midget Football and coached midget football in Bemus Point.

Residing on the lake at Belleview, Jerry was especially interested in the development of the south and center Chautauqua Lake Sewer Districts. He served for several years on the districts’ board of directors and as an involved member of the board’s technical committee.

Jerry loved fast boating and especially enjoyed restoring antique cars in his retirement years.

Surviving are his wife Ann Johnson Saar, whom he married Nov. 30, 1963; three children: Jane (Jason) Bacon of Cayuga, N.Y., Christine (Mike Hubschman) Saar of Cicero, N.Y., and Michael (Marcia) Saar of Bemus Point; seven grandchildren: Adam Hull, Danielle Rappahahn, Nicholas Lusnar, McKenna Lusnar, Joshua Powers, Nathan Saar and Allyson Saar; two great-grandchildren: Jace and Mikaela Rappahahn; and siblings: Mary (Thomas) Erlandson of Frewsburg, Margaret (Donald) Graham of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Donald (Mary) Saar of Bemus Point.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Marc Hull.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
