Priscilla Irene Magnuson Hubbard

Priscilla Irene Magnuson Hubbard, formerly of Charlottesville, Va., died peacefully at her home in Amherst, Va., on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019. She was born Feb. 28, 1929, in Jamestown, N.Y., the eldest daughter of the late Leonard A. Magnuson and Irene Johnson Magnuson.

Priscilla grew up in Lakewood, N.Y., graduating from Lakewood High School in 1946. She graduated from William Smith College, Geneva, N.Y., with an education degree in 1950. She met her future husband, Col. William Dobson Hubbard there and they were married Aug. 16, 1952, spending their lives in the U.S. Marine Corps as Col. Hubbard established his military career.

Priscilla was involved in many activities in high schoiol including cheer leading and with her home being near the lake, she loved to sail and swin with friends at Chatauqua Lake. A quick wit, her Swedish upbringing had her singing Swedish lullabies and reading to her children and grandchildren. She and her husband traveled the world and her husband’s love of trains had them on many an adventure across America. She taught school for one year before becoming a devoted mother. As a homemaker, she was extremely gifted, loving to sew, knit, quilt and needlepoint and created many artistic pieces. During their retirement years in Crozet, Va., she and her husband were active with the Western Albemarie Rescue Squad in Crozet.

Priscilla is survived by her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Hubbard of Amherst, Va.; sister, Mary Leigh Magnuson Smith (Dr. Donald C.) of Chester, Va.; grandson, Jonathan William Reed (Kaytee) of Amherst, Va.; granddaughter, Kelsie Brumet of Blacksburg, Va.; great-grandchildren: Madison, Andrew and Ario Reed of Amherst, Va.; several cousins, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Col. William D. Hubbard; daughter, Julie Ann Hubbard; son, Timothy Leonard Hubbard; brothers: Don L, John ”Jack” Allen and Neil Evans Magnuson.

The family is planning a memorial service in Chester, Va., following her burial in Quantico, Va., where her husband is buried. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Albemarie Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932 in memory of Priscilla Hubbard.
