John W. Pitts III

John was born in Jamestown, N.Y., to John W. Pitts II and Elsie Anderson Pitts.

He graduated from Jamestown High School and honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before joining the Jamestown Fire Department. John retired from the Jamestown Police Department as a lieutenant and was active in the IAFF Local 1772 Union of firefighters. He also served on the Morton Club Board. Upon retiring from the Jamestown Police Department, John had a few small business and worked as a car salesman for Ed Shults and Hartley Buick.

He is survived by four children: Jonna Johnson and husband, Steven, Travis Pitts and companion, Angela Gonzalez, Trevor Pitts and companion, Amy Panczakiewicz and Todd Pitts and wife, Jill; and his three grandchildren; Daniel Johnson, Zoey Johnson, and Giuliana Pitts.

The family will hold a closed graveside service. A memorial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 2-4p.m., at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 557, 4498 Dutch Hollow Road. The family welcomes friends and family during this time.
