Rosalia “Rose” Ruzzene

Rosalia “Rose” Ruzzene, 97, of Falconer, passed away Sunday (Aug, 25, 2019) in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing.

She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Joseph and Verna Morechi Caruso.

Rose was a graduate of Buffalo City School 6 and during World War II was employed by Bell Aircraft in Buffalo. While working at Bell Aircraft, Rose was known as “Rosie the Riveter.” Prior to retirement, she was employed by Seneca Manor Nursing Home and had served as a Foster Grandparent for nine years.

Rose was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8113 Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and crocheting.

Surviving are five children: Madeline (Bill) Vogel of Atlanta, Ga., Dominic Ruzzene of Knoxville, Tenn., Joseph (Ceci) Ruzzene of Knoxville, Tenn., Susan (Glen) Dickerson of Falconer, and Frank Ruzzene of Kansas, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; a brother, Jerry Caruso of Buffalo; and a sister, Francis Carmina of Buffalo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ruzzene, whom she married April 29, 1949, in Buffalo, and who died Sept. 1, 1968; a son, John Ruzzene; a grandson, Michael Vogel; two brothers: Iggy Caruso and Anthony Caruso; and a sister, Tina Caruso.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark Hinman, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Rev. Dan Soderberg will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
