Shirley Ann Chamberlain

Shirley Ann Chamberlain, 83, of Jamestown, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019, following a lengthy illness.

She was born at home on Jan. 11, 1936 in Mina, Chautauqua County, N.Y., the youngest child of the late Jason and Dorothy Roberson Grimes.

Prior to retirement, Shirley was employed by Jamestown Public Schools; for many years. She was also a self-employed licensed beautician.

Shirley’s interests included caring for her feline companion of 20 years, Missy. While her thoughts were never far from her family, she also enjoyed her flower gardens, reading, bird watching, long rides along country roads while observing the changing seasons, sharing stories about her childhood, visiting historical sites and bicycling.

Shirley was an introvert who also greatly enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed her travels but was always happy to return home after a few days away.

Surviving are four children: Vicky A. Chamberlain (Brent Ewell), Rick Chamberlain, Kurt Chamberlain and Sherry Glenn (Kevin Rider); four grandchildren: Kristy Chamberlain, Michael Glenn-Chamberlain, McKayla Sluga and McKenzie Rider; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Chamberlain Jr.; her eldest son, Gordon Chamberlain; a grandson, Jeffrey Chamberlain; four brothers: Richard, Howard, Stanley and Rudy Grimes; a sister, Thelma Roberts; her stepmother, Hazel Grimes; and a stepsister, Mary Michaels.

In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, no funeral service or visitation will be observed.

The services of Hospice were invaluable during Shirley’s long illness.
