Laura Hope Klinger (Chamberlin)

Laura Hope Klinger, (Chamberlin), 85, of Sherman, N.Y., died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at her home.

She was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Walter and Sylvia Graham Chamberlin.

Laura was raised in Cutting, N.Y. by her foster parents, Harold and Ethel Bemus. She attended Clymer schools. On Oct. 20, 1950, she married her husband, Richard Klinger, who died Oct. 29, 1966.

Laura had many interests. She loved cooking, collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes. Laura also enjoyed crafts including needle point, crocheting and plastic canvas. Her love for owls and penguins left her with a large collection of owl statues, stuffed penguins, toy penguins and penguin pajamas! She also loved being surrounded by her family. The more that were present the bigger the smile on her face. Above all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great -grandmother and great- great grandmother.

Laura is survived by her eight children: Alton of Sherman, N.Y., Diana Ferguson of Ashville, N.Y., Keith of Sherman, Pam Vettenburg (Becky Engel) of Smyrna, Tenn., Tina Phelps (Mike McKoon) of Jamestown, N.Y., Paul (Cathy) of Ripley, Mark,of Sherman and Doug of Sherman. Grandmother of 18 grandchildren; 50 greatgrandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, and nephews.

Besides her parents, foster parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings: Walter Chamberlin, Verna Firster, Fred Chamberlin and Bonnadene Brenyas; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

We would also like to say a special thank you to our brother, Mark for being mom’s primary caregiver and seeing to most of her daily needs, and to our sister, Diana for supplying most of her transportation. Thank you from all of us.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Spitzer Funeral Home, 135 Miller St., Sherman, N.Y., where funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will be the Sherman Cemetery. A gathering, at the home of Joseph and Michelle Phelps, 3176 Sherman-Clymer Road, Clymer, N.Y,, will follow the service. All are invited.
