Ryan Dwight Wakeley

Ryan Dwight Wakeley

Ryan Dwight Wakeley, 31, of Portland, N.Y., passed away June 8, 2019.

He was born Feb. 11, 1988, in Westfield, N.Y., the son of Ruth E. Gilbert and the late Dwight B. Wakeley.

Ryan was a graduate of Brocton Central School class of 2007. He graduated E2CCB LoGuidice Educational Center obtaining his welding certificate in 2007.

He was an avid gardener most of his life. Even as a young boy he had a green thumb. He could recite how to tend and grow most plant, flowers and trees. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV’s, camping and anything nature had to offer. He often found comfort and solace going on hikes and long walks with his children and beloved canine friend of 14 years, Buck.

His children meant the world to him. He was a self-taught mechanic learning by trial and error. You could find him tinkering on any given day.

Ryan is survived by his beautiful children: a son, Bryan D. Wakeley and a daughter, Alena L Wakeley; his mother, Ruth E Gilbert of Gerry N.Y.; his sisters: Penny L Gilbert of Portland. N.Y., Larimey A Gilbert of Gerry, N.Y., and Karen L Wakeley of Westfield, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Ada M Gilbert of Westfield N.Y.; his stepgrandmother, Betty Gilbert of Westfield N.Y.; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Dorothy Wakeley of Northeast, Pa.; nephews: Dean Janes, Dylin Williams and Ryan Schermerhorn; nieces: Hailey Williams, Aubree Espersen and Hannah Wakeley; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins; and his canine companion, Buck.

Ryan is preceded in death by his Father, Dwight B Wakeley, maternal grandfather, Richard A Gilbert, and nephew Damon W Janes.

His struggles have ended. He is finally at peace. Off to a place where music, laughter, and love are guaranteed.

I take my mortal leave of this rollicking, revolving world. This sun, that moon. The walk around the lake, stroll through, the gorges and rolling hills. The memory of my children’s hand in mine.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, June 15, at noon at West Portland Baptist Church. A luncheon will follow services.
