Robert W. Roach

Robert W. Roach, 93, of Jamestown, passed away at 8:02 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2019, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.

A lifelong area resident, he was born May 23, 1926, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Walter H. and Jessie Brundell Roach.

Bob was a 1944 graduate of Falconer High School and graduated from the Chicago Technical College in 1953.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from Oct. 13, 1944 to Aug. 17, 1946, during World War II. During his tour of duty he had received the Army of Occupation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

After serving his country, Bob continued his work with the Erie Railroad as a tower operator. He then moved to Chicago to attend Chicago Technical and graduated to become a civil engineer. He married his wife, Milllie and moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where he took a job designing steel working for Truscon Steel Company and started his family. When Truscon Steel ceased operations they moved back to Falconer, N.Y., where he worked in the family business, Falconer Printing and Design Company from 1958 until his retirement in 1991.

Bob was a longtime active member of the First Covenant Church, where he served as an usher, a deacon and was involved in the tape ministry. He also enjoyed visiting the shut-ins at their homes.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mildred Johnson Roach, whom he married Oct. 23, 1954; a son; Douglas (Maryanne) Roach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his grandchildren; Matthew, Daniel, and Amy Roach of Colorado Springs, Sara Otto of Barcelona, Spain, and Lisa Buman of Clarence, N.Y.; his great grandchildren: Alexander Buman of Clarence, N.Y., Loukas and Kolton Roach of Colorado Springs; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice E. Otto who died Dec. 17, 1987; a sister, Elizabeth R. Olofson, who died Sept. 3, 2008; and a brother, Maurice E. Roach, who died Jan. 15, 2019.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Adam Rohler, pastor of the First Covenant Church and David B. Larson will officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
