Mary A. Butler-Walker

Mary A. Butler-Walker of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Jamestown and Lakewood, N.Y., sadly passed away May 10, 2019, in the Agape Hospice House. She bravely succumbed to Lewy Bodies Dementia.

She was born March 3, 1935, in Jamestown, N.Y., to the late William F. and Minnie L. Butler. She was a 1953 graduate of Jamestown High School with an effervescing personality.

Mary worked over the years as a cook at the former Ritz Restaurant, as a secretary for the Alessi Law Firm, assembly line worker at Automatic Voting Machine Company, and at Cummins Engine Company in the procurement department until her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and entertaining family and friends, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Walker; her son, Wendell K. Butler Sr.; and her brother, Roderick Butler.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Butler of Columbia, S.C., with whom she resided; a sister, Betty Richardson of Jamestown, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Wendell (Lisa) Butler of Savannah, Ga., Gabrielle Butler of Savannah, Ga., William (Azjah) Butler of Jamestown, N.Y., and Branden Butler of Columbia S.C; three great- grandchildren: William and A’Ari Butler of Jamestown, N.Y., and Charles Wendell “CW” Butler of Savannah, Ga.; and her companion, Banjo. She is aslo survived by a host of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Emanuel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. There will be no visitation prior to the service. A private gravesite burial will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery for the immediate family, officiated by the Rev. Leroy Walker, pastor of the Emanuel Baptist Church.

There will be a repast in the church basement following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to the Agape Hospice House, c/o Agape Foundation 1624 Main St., Columbia, SC 29201.
