Erma Colander Desmond

Erma Colander Desmond, formerly of 22 Chapman St., died Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in the Lutheran Home.

She was born Sept, 10, 1920, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Ernest and Anna Olson Colander. As a child she resided in the Fenton Mansion.

She was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School.

While living in Los Angeles, Calif., she worked in the travel department of Shell Oil Company and later moving to San Francisco and worked for the California State AAA. She was employed by several Jamestown businesses including Crescent Tool, Eastern Plywood, AAA of Jamestown and retired from Certified Travel.

She was a confirmand and member of Zion Covenant Church, where she was also a member of Covenant Women, visitation committee and 55 Plus. She volunteered and assisted in planning many trips and activities for seniors.

Her other memberships include American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation, Thule Lodge 127, Marvin Community House, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and Super Travelers.

She is survived by a cousin, Alan (Lois) Olson of Seneca, S.C.; and members of the Johnson family, whom she very much appreciated.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; an infant sister; a cousin, J. Everett Olson; and her best friend and traveling companion Dorothy Johnson Hedgepeth.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller and the Rev. Daniel Rumfelt will officiate.

Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
