Rudolph P. Ahlgren ‘‘Rudy’’

Rudolph P. Ahlgren ”Rudy,” formerly of Jamestown, N.Y., and 4400 Waxhaw Indian Trail Road, Indian Trail, N.C., passed away on Jan. 31, 2019.

Rudy was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Jamestown, to Adolph and Ruth Bratt Ahlgren. The youngest of seven children.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Donna Wirtner Ahlgren, two sons: Kelly Ahlgren of Greenville, S.C., and Barry Ahlgren (Rose Ann) of Indian Trail, N.C.; six grandchildren: Mary (Joe) Koncikowski of Seattle Wash., Lisa (Chris) Taylor, Jonathan Ahlgren and Christopher Ahlgren, all of North Carolina and Joshua and Karin Marie Ahlgren of South Carolina. He also has six beautiful great- grandchildren who he got to enjoy the past year; his brother, Richard (Mary) Ahlgren of Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death, by his son, Tracy Ahlgren; brothers: Victor, Albert and Eugene; and sisters: Virginia Nelson and Kathryn Harvey.

Rudy Served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne and 10th and 77th Special Forces as a paratrooper. Rudy lived his whole life in the Jamestown area until last year when he and Donna spent the last year with his son, Barry and his wife, Rose Ann, due to illnesses.

He was employed by the parks and recreations department with the City of Jamestown, where he retired in 1993. Rudy enjoyed riding his bike all over the city and has been known to ride 30 miles around the lake just for fun, he once road to Atlantic City just to say he did it. Rudy also enjoyed skydiving (which he shared with Barry, Kelly and Tracy) He was part owner in a drop zone at Randolph airport in early 60s. Rudy suffered from dementia and multiple myeloma and was under Hospice care in Charlotte.
