Richard G. Kelly

NORTH COLLINS, N.Y. — Richard G. Kelly, 78, of Main Street, North Collins, formerly of Hamburg and Conewango Valley, N.Y., passed away Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2019) at Hospice Buffalo, after a long illness.

Richard was born Dec. 15, 1940, in Hamburg, the son of the late Stanley and Marcella (Feidt) Kelly. Richard attended St. Peter & Paul School in Hamburg.

He was the owner operator of Kelly Trucking & Excavation in Hamburg for 30 plus years of service, retiring in 1996. Richard was known as a very skilled operator of back hoes, bulldozers, dump trucks and anything used to move ground. He was affectionately known in his craft as “Dicky Digger.”

Richard was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph, where he served as eucharistic minister, altar server, grounds keeper and general maintenance and assisted his wife, Gloria with religious instruction. He had formerly served as deputy supervisor for the Town of Conewango, N,Y, and was a former member of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria J. Robinson Kelly, whom he married on Nov. 12, 1994, in St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hamburg: two children: James N. Kelly and Mary Duchmann and husband, Peter, all of Hamburg; six grandchildren: Justin Kelly, Rachael Kelly, Amanda Kelly, Hannah Kelly, Tiffany Northern and husband, Travis and Travis Duchmann; and a great-grandson, Damien Kelly.

He is additionally survived by siblings: Raymond Kelly of Summerfield, Dorothy Clouting and Katherine Ristine and husband, Warren, all of Hamburg; a niece, Jennifer (Tony) Orlando; and nephew, Daniel Ristine.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Paul Kelly on July 11, 2008; a sister, Patricia Kelly; and brother-in-Law, Charles Clouting.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11:30 a.m., Monday (Jan. 21, 2019) in the Van Rensselaer and Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph. The Rev. Joseph Janaczek will be the celebrant. A Rosary service will precede calling hours at 9:30 a,m, Burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Randolph.
