Dorothy “Dot” Emmott Johnson

Dorothy “Dot” Emmott Johnson, 95, of Orchard Grove, formerly 131 Indiana Ave., Jamestown, and 3 Green St., Lakewood, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018 at UPMC Chautauqua.

She was born Aug. 23, 1923, in Marienville, Pa., a daughter of the late Valentine V. and Mary Lorena Mae Meehan Smith. An area resident since age three, she attended several elementary schools in Jamestown, Ss. Peter & Paul Parochial School and was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School.

Dot married the love of her life, Harold L. Emmott, on Dec. 5, 1943, in Jamestown’s First Baptist Church. They were married almost 50 years when he passed away April 11, 1993. Together they enjoyed family get-togethers, traveling and entertaining. They were the proud parents of two children: Bryan Emmott and Bonnie Emmott Wilson.

In earlier years, Dot was employed by Woolworths and the G. C. Murphy Co. and retired at the age of 62, from the J.C. Kelso Variety Store. She also worked as an elevator operator at the Hotel Jamestown.

Dot was a baptized member since 1974 of Lakewood Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school secretary, helped with vacation Bible school and was active in the Lydia Society and Young at Heart Group.

She was involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts when her children were young and was a past president of the former Lillian Dickson Elementary School PTA.

Dot loved sending cards to many people over the years, birthday, wedding, graduation, get well, sympathy, anniversary and many other occasions. It was the highlight of her life and she continued to do so until two weeks before her passing.

She is survived by her two children: Bryan (Judy) Emmott of Clearwater, Fla., and daughter, Bonnie Emmott (Mike) Wilson of Ashville, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Deanna Rivers, Heather Bellman, Carrie DeLaCruz, Christine Wilson, Todd Emmott and Amber Wilson-Sailes; 11 great-grandchildren: Alicia Sweeney, Nathan Rivers, Amalia DeLaCruz, Kaitlyn and Meghan Emmott, Vanessa and Garrison Bellman, Reilley and Connor Wilson, and Mikayla and Camden Sailes; a brother, William (Ruth) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her first husband, Harold L. Emmott, she was preceded in death by her second husband, George P. Johnson, whom she married Aug. 4, 2001, and who died Jan. 26, 2018. She was also preceded by three brothers: James Michael Smith, Valentine Smith Jr. and Philip Smith; a sister, Nancy Williams; and a greatgranddaughter, Rachel Sweeney.

Dot’s family has a big thank you and praise for the staff at Orchard Grove who cared for her and loved her for the past 2 Ç years, as well as Donna Mae, Dot’s dear friend there.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Lakewood Baptist Church. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook, retired pastor, will officiate. Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, in the Lind Funeral Home.
