Clifford W. “Cliff” Carlson
Clifford W. “Cliff” Carlson, 87, of Greenhurst, N.Y., passed away at 8:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, he was born July 9, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., a son of the late Clifford H. and Marie Close Carlson.
Cliff was a 1948 graduate of the former Bemus Point High School.
Before his retirement, he was employed by the Weber-Knapp Company, where he worked for over 40 years, beginning in the accounting department and retiring as company treasurer.
He was a life member of the Fluvanna Fire Department and a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65, Independent Order of the Vikings, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and a member of the War Vets Recreation Club and the Thule Lodge 127 VASA Order of America. He was also inducted into the Chautauqua County Bowling Hall of Fame and was a past president of the Jamestown Bowling Association.
Cliff was an active participant in sports his entire life. He played fast pitch softball in the industrial league and social league and was a modified pitcher for the Fluvanna Fire Department in the fireman’s softball league. He was an avid bowler and bowled for several leagues over the years including the AARP Bowling League. He also enjoyed many rounds of golf during his retirement years. He will be remembered as a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians and the Buffalo Bills.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Mary Ann Marker Carlson, whom he married Oct. 11, 1952; two sons: Jeff (Lori) Carlson of Jamestown, N.Y. and Rick (Becky) Carlson of Hamburg, N.Y.; five grandchildren; Brock (Kelly) Carlson of Bemus Point, N.Y., Dr. Derrick (Jess Pachuta) Carlson of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dr. Lindsay (Michael) Carlson-Klein of Charlottesville, Va., Tyler Carlson and Jamie Carlson, both of Hamburg; three great-grandchildren: Mesa, Sara and Anna Carlson; a sister, Joan (Chuck) Aldrich of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a brother, Reggie (Kathy) Carlson, who were a great comfort to the family during Cliff’s illness.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce A. Carlson, who died Nov. 23, 1970.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Phillip Rohler, pastor of the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
Friends will be received from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service.
