Philip J. Pilato

Philip J. Pilato passed away on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Heritage Green Nursing Home. A lifelong resident of Jamestown, he was born Sept. 1, 1928, the son of the late James V. Pilato and Antonina “Lena” (Valvo) Pilato.

Phil was a retired television repairman and owned Phil’s Radio-TV service on East Second Street. He later operated Phil’s TV & Organ Service for over 50 years — his reputation for electronic repair was such that he never needed to advertise. He was also a veteran of the Korean War. He served as a radio instructor at Southeastern Signal School in Camp Gordon, Georgia; from there he was deployed to D’Isley Camp near Permasins, Germany where he served as a battalion maintenance technician for facsimile, teletype and other electronic equipment in the 17th Signal Radio Battalion.

He was of the Roman Catholic faith, a communicant of Sacred Heart in Lakewood and a former member of the St. James choir. He will always be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather who was a quiet man, who enjoyed his home, being with his family and their dogs, Chloe, Deja, and Maggie, working with electronics, playing the organ, and watching movies.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Marie (Contiguglia) Pilato, whom he married on Sept. 5, 1955; two sons: Anthony (Connie) Pilato of Jamestown, Michael (Jodi) Pilato of Ashville; and a daughter, Ann Atwell of Jamestown. Two grandsons: Lucas Atwell of Jamestown and Jesse (Faith) Atwell of Gerry, three sisters, Beatrice Antonuccio, Janette (Tom) Foti of Jamestown, Anne (Ken) Cohen of Virginia and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pilato and the family would like to thank doctors, nurses and the staff of Heritage Green Nursing Home for their care and compassion in caring for our husband, father, and grandfather. A private service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or a charity of one’s choice. You may leave a condolence at www.lind funeralhome.com.
