Dorothy Hanson Brown

Dorothy Hanson Brown of Clarence Center, N.Y., formerly of Snyder, Westfield and Jamestown, died Friday, July 27, 2018.

She was born in 1915 to Swan and Eva Christensen of Jamestown, N.Y.

She was the beloved wife of the late E. Harold Brown and the late Sigurd A. Hanson. She was predeceased by her son, Christopher R. Hanson, PhD.; sons-in-law: Kenneth W. Brown and Gary E. Brown; and sisters: Irene A. Jones, Lucille H. Plank and Alberta P. Swanson.

She is survived by her daughters-in-law: Cheriann Hanson and Kathy Brown; and her daughter, the Rev. Natalie A. Hanson (the Rev. J. Paul Womack). She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michael Brown (Marcy), Bradley Brown (Kim), Bethany Womack (Joe), Catherine Womack, Lindsay Hanson, Kristan Hanson and Anna Womack; as well as a treasured family of nieces and nephews, and their children.

Dorothy was an actor, radio host, weaver of stories, Christian educator, published poet and choir alto who served several United Methodist churches in Western New York and received awards for her ecumenical TV ‘spots.’

She grew gardens and book clubs wherever she went, and mentored a generation of younger poets, educators and pastors. She loved greatly and was dearly loved. The world around her changed enormously, but she kept learning, and always found reason for hope and delight.

Her long and rich life will be celebrated at Christ United Methodist Church, Harlem and Saratoga roads., Snyder, N.Y., on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.,
