Chandler Ray Nelson

DEWITTVILLE — Chandler Ray Nelson, 89, of Point Chautauqua, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in Gerry, N.Y.

He was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Mayville, N.Y., the son of the late Raymond and Elsie Bohn Nelson.

Chan is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served from 1948-52.

He had worked for Falconer Metal as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1993

Chan was a life member of the Mayville American Legion William L. Travis Post 493 and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church of Mayville.

He enjoyed furniture building, yard work, bird watching and spending time with his wife and family.

Chan is survived by his wife, Ruth Robinson Nelson, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1955, in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Mayville; three children: Tim (Maureen) Nelson of St. Pete Beach, Fla., Terri Kolasinski of Ocoee, Fla., and Todd (Tina) Nelson of Brecksville, Ohio; seven grandchildren: Savanah Nelson of Tallahassee, Fla., Nicholas Kolasinski of Ocoee, Fla., Kyler Nelson of Las Vegas, Nev., Jordan Nelson of Parma, Ohio, Devon Nelson of Broadview heights, Ohio, Braydon Nelson of St. Bonaventure, N,Y, and Kaelyn Nelson of Brecksville, Ohio; one brother, Alvin (Marie) Nelson of Jamestown; one sister, Jane Cole of Greenhurst, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Beverly Nelson and Gloria Eggleston.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m., on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville. The Rev. Dr. Richard B. Elberfeld Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends for one hour (3-4 p.m.) before the service at the funeral home.
