Donald F. Caswell
Donald F. Caswell, 88, of Falconer, passed away Thursday (May 10, 2018) in UPMC Chautauqua WCA.
He was born June 18, 1929, in Randolph, N.Y., the son of the late Roy N. and Isabel A. Meacham Caswell.
Don was a 1948 graduate of Randolph High School. In the 1950s, he was employed by Art Metal Corporation and Dahltrom Manufacturing in the 1960s. He owned and operated Levant Gulf Station in the 1970s and was the founder and original owner of Big Don’s Ice Cream from 1978-87. He was also employed by Jamestown Community College from 1980-94. After retirement, he drove cars for many area auto dealerships.
Don enjoyed his love for his grandchildren, watching NASCAR, woodworking, cross stitching, fishing in Canada and Myrtle Beach, S.C., craft work and setting up in local shows, collecting classic cars and trucks and attending auto shows. He was a member of the Frewsburg Car Club, Classic Chevy Club.
He is survived by his wife, Arlie J. Meabon Caswell, whom he married March 18, 1978 and celebrated their 40th Anniversary; six children: Bobbie Ann Caswell of Lily Dale, David Caswell (David Gilebarto) of Jamestown, Stephanie (Mark) Hilyer of Hamburg, Robert (Sherri) Shaw of Jamestown, Rhonda (Ted) Lee of Fredonia and Rae Bollman of Falconer; seven grandchildren: Linnea Thompson (Frank Migliore Jr.), Steven Samuelson, Kyle Samuelson, Michael Lee, Shannon Lee, Nicholas Bollman and Christopher Bollman; and a great-grandson, Tyler Gray.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jodi L. Shaw on Jan. 17, 2010; three brothers: Edward, Herbert and Amos Caswell.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to Falconer Fire Department or the Chautauqua County Humane Society.
