Veronica E. "Ronnie" Karasek Pesta

On Friday, May 19, 2017, Veronica E. “Ronnie” Karasek Pesta, 75, passed away at York Hospital.

She was the wife of Raymond F. Pesta and loving mother of children, Laura and David. Ronnie was born March 17, 1942, in Spangler to the late Stephen and Katherine (Linsky) Karasek. She was one of 10 children.

One of her first jobs was as a long-distance operator for Ohio Bell. This was where she met her husband, Ray. Later she was a member of SJTBRC Church. She was a member of the church choir for many years.

She helped run the food bank and gathered information and artifacts for the Shrewsbury Centennial. She was heavily involved in her community. She loved sports, especially the Pittsburgh teams. Ronnie used to be a member of a traveling women’s bowling league and she also coached the St. John the Baptist women’s softball team.

Ronnie is survived by her husband; two children, Laura Rathburn and her husband Chuck, and David Pesta; and three grandchildren: Christina, Kate and Elizabeth. She is also survived by by brothers and sisters: William (Sarge) of Jamestown, N.Y., Donald of Phoenixville, Pa., Stephen of Clymer, Pa., Joseph of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Catherine (Doll) of Cleveland, Ohio, and Theresa (Babe) of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by brothers and sister, Anthony, Mary Carol and Archibald.

Public visitation was held on May 24, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A Funeral Liturgy was held on May 25, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom. Interment was held in the church cemetery.
